| Christopher Kaufman - composer/teacher/presenter/performer See my latest NewsLetter: and my Artists Consultant's Site: Jeffrey James. .................................... .................................Christopher Kaufman at the United Nations Kaufman's work with young people and theater has blossomed into a wonderful new project -- the musical opera 'Pickles and the Junkman's Daughter'. Kaufman is working with writer/director Dominick Rossetti. To see footage of their recent premier showcase at the United Nations as participants in the Tsunami Relief Benefit event, visit Dominicks site - go to his 'theatrical' area and you may see this event as a film and also the trailer for the 'Lightning Bug', which is a film project they have initiated.
NEW INITIATIVE: .......The LONG BEACH CHAMBER SYMPHONY First performance was August 7, 2005 in Long Beach. These shows are 'pop-style' concerts with classical pieces, broadway songs, readings with semi-improvised experimental music, twentieth century classics and original new music. Kaufman is composer/arranger/conductor/ and programmer for these events - and works with SUSAN JAMES (of Artists in Partnership, Long Beach, NY) - whose energy, artistic input and talents as a fund-raiser and organizational director make these events possible. At present the concerts are annual summer events - out-door concerts. Next year will feature notable guest-artist soloists, songs from Kaufman/Rossetti's 'Pickles and the Junkman's Daughter', and include artists who reside in and near Long Beach. NY.
Narrative BIO:: Christopher Kaufman has composed music for a wide variety of medium including orchestra, wind ensemble, dance, chamber groups, theater and solo works. His work has been featured at June in Buffalo, The Charles Ives Music Center, the NorthEastern Composer's Conference, Encore Summer Music, The Internationales Musikinstitut of Darmstadt, Germany and Eastman’s Musica Nova. His Ring of Fire - for orchestra was featured at the American Composers Orchestra readings. He has been a fellow four times at the MacDowell Arts Colony. He has received commissions including Island (the SWMinnesota Orchestra), Initiations - for wind ensemble (Brian Israel Fund), Canto - for cello and piano (Presbyterian Church of Rome, NY), Signs of Heaven - for cello, soprano and organ (St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Slaterville, NY), Symphonic Waves and Rhythmic Fanfares - for wind ensemble (Encore Summer Music). He has received support from the M.F.
J. Copying Fund, Meet the Composer, UCC Council on the Arts, CAP, the
CAP individual artists' award, as well as charitable donations from individuals
in his community who support his work.

News:: • Just completed 'The Gardens of Lemuria' - for orchestra, 'Spirit' - for orchestra and is presently completing new symphony 'Ulysses on Circe's Shore' and 'Mythagos' for orchestra.. • Mercury's Shadow - for two violins was performed brilliantly by Monica Bauchwitz and William Hakim as Ms. Bauchwitz' presented the work on her highly esteemed series 'Concerts in the Heights' -- Friday, March 10th in NYC. • recently completed Runningmusic for trombonists Haim Azitsur, Dave Taylor and Nitzan Haroz (prin. of Phil. Orch). • recently completed music for hour- long first act of musical/opera Pickles and the Junkman's Daughterpwhich will be ready as a film in early to mid September. • Presented - as conductor/composer/arranger of the Long Beach Chamber Symphony his works: 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' for piano and orchestra, songs from 'Pickles' Angel Fish, Quiet Heart and One, Day One, Night - with JessAnn Smith singing. - with Susan James and the Long Beach Arts Council. Kaufman is now creating a new version of 'Voyage' for orchestra only. • Orchestra piece ISLAND (Eeslahnd) was performed five times as part of the Vahktang Jordania Conducting Competition in Karpov, Ukraine. • During CHIRON Performing Arts -04 festival event his Madrigal in Spring was presented along with his new JAGUAR for poet and ensemble. • Organist/ Composer Carson P. Cooman recently led a performance of Dialogue of Structures - for organ and trumpet at Harvard University. • The Schubert Trio will perform Madrigal in Spring next season. • November (11/9/03) presented CHIRON Performing Arts Event featuring his THE PHOENIX for ensemble and dance: which is dedicated to the City of New York, his ...At the Gates... for 9 trombones and BRASS QUINTET - performed by Bombastiq Brass. • Recently completed THE PHOENIX - for orchestra: dedicated to New York City. This work awaits premier. • His Madrigal in Spring - for piano trio was performed at the American Composers' Alliance Festival June 2003. • ISLAND ('eeslanhd') for orchestra and Narrator was recently commissioned and premiered by the Southwestern Minnesota Orchestra • His Brass Quintet was recently performed by the Westwind Brass at the San Diego Museum of Art, May 2003 and Bombatiq Brass in June. • Pianist Jon Liechty is performing his music in NYC and Maine. • PRESENTED CHIRON Performing Arts '04 season which featured the music of Kaufman, John Eaton, Robert Dick, Javier de la Torre and Ginestera - the pianting/sculpture of Argentinian master Raul Conti and much more.
